Hey, bumblebees! Sadly, this is one of the last posts to my beginning a bullet journal series. In this post, you will find a step-by-step guide to finally start your bullet journal! Feel free to flick back to one of my previous posts to help out. So in this post, you can either do each of these steps as you read orrrrr you could read through it and do it later.
Pick your journal
To bullet journal, you are going to need a notebook of some kind. You can use any type of journal you like, the most important quality in a bullet journal for me is the page type and thickness of the pages.
This means whether the pages are ruled, grids, coloured, textured or dotted, my favourite is dotted and you will find this very common among the bullet journal community. Although dotted pages are popular, you should choose whatever suits you best! Dotted pages are minimal and simple but still have a guide to help you write and draw straight.
The page thickness is very vital in a journal for me as I enjoy using many different art mediums in my bullet journal for creativity - to check the weight/thickness of the pages, check the GSM of the notebook, the higher the thicker!
I also find the page colour an interesting quality of a journal as you can find many types such as cream, white, grey and black. My preference is bright white.
The aesthetics of the journal are VERY important to me, this includes the packaging, the cover, the details and how special the brand makes it feel.
Some journal brands are:
My current bullet journal is a Modena and I find myself gluing pages together to make them thicker. Next year I will be using an Archer & Olive journal and I am beyond ecstatic because I have heard it is the best journal out there!
Look forward to an in-depth review on and Archer&Olive in October!

Figure out the purpose of your journal
What do you want your bullet journal to do? Will it be for planning? Will it be for art? Will it be for writing? Will it be for tracking habits? Will it be for memories? Or will it be for all of the above and more? YOU DECIDE. It's your journal so you can choose how you want to use it! You absolutely do not have to follow everything another person does. My bullet journal is for everything I want. I plan, journal, write, track, dump everything in it and it is not structured as perfectly as another persons' is but it works for me and that's all that matters. The front of my journal is planning and everything to do with every-day life and from the back is my artsy and fun journaling areas. The beauty of a bullet journal is that it can be everything you want it to be and it does not have to look like someone else's which makes it even better!
To bullet journal all you need is a pen or pencil and a journal but if you want to have a more artistic edge to your journal you may like to find some fun stationery! Many people including me like to use their bullet journal as an outlet for creativity so having different types of supplies is always handy especially if you are stationery obsessed like me!
You are now prepared to begin your journaling adventure! Rember to have fun with it and don't worry about mistakes, because mistakes will only give your journal character! Find inspiration from Pinterest, Youtube or Instagram turn it into your own and put pen to paper!
Thank you so much for reading through this post! I hope you enjoyed it and it also helped you get into your bullet journal! I have a few more posts left for this series so look forward to them!
